Personal Dream Home: Part III — Looking Back

After all of the work both physical, and emotional and the expenses, we are not planning to move anytime soon. However, it is heartening to note that our recent real estate purchase has already yielded a 10% increase in the value of our home above the cost of the renovations!  Due to our careful planning, budgeting, and hiring the right contractor, Noel Pompey, of Innovative Technical Design & Construction, we moved into our new home, which underwent a total gut renovation, in less than two months after closing.

Here are some tips from my recent renovation experience:

1. Make a very detailed budget so that you know what you will spend on every single item in order to keep within your total budget. Shout out to my wonderfully talented and “on-point” designer, Julie Schuster, Pres. of Julie Schuster Design Studio for all of her fabulous design ideas and budget spreadsheet.

2. Always interview at least three contractors and have them give you a detailed quote that includes only the labor.

3. Make sure you see some of the work that the contractor has done and speak directly to at least one or two of their recent clients.

I have many other renovation tips that I will be happy to share with you if you contact me.
