Post-Purchase Paradise: Thinking “Outside” the Box

Creative buyers working with the right real estate professionals can turn a good space into the perfect space for their needs.

What’s a family of four to do with a unit that’s only roughly 1,000 sf, but with a large balcony spanning the entire width of the apartment? The answer: bring the outdoors in!

Apartment 8C at 233 East 86th Street was a two bedroom, two bathroom unit in an Upper East Side doorman, co-op building that the buyers loved. But, with two young children, they were craving some additional playroom space as well as a home office for dad, so that he could spend more time at home with the kids.

They realized that they needed to create a floor-plan that would provide them all of the functional space that they needed, and the answer was right outside in the property’s huge outdoor space.

So, they brought some of the outside in–enlarged the master bedroom, created an office nook off the living room, and still maintained a spacious outdoor balcony to entertain friends and family.

This family of four loves their now spacious apartment, and it was only possible by thinking outside the box! So glad that I got the chance to visit with them recently after the renovations were completed.
